This mod did wonders for me, I'm running an i7 4790k + R9 290 and the difference is night and day, especially in the city areas. Please do read the readme carefully however, but I'll post a small installation guide down below just in case it helps anyone.1). Download the Fallout 4 Asi loader from here:2). Extract all 3 files inside the 'bin' folder to your main Fallout 4 directory (where Fallout4.exe is located, NOT the Data folder).3).
Download the ShadowBoost.zip file from the mod page and extract the file inside the bin folder ( ShadowBoost.ini) to your main Fallout 4 directory (same place as before).4). Open ShadowBoost.ini and change to your desired values. The values do the following:fTargetFramerate - fps you need, shadow draw distance will be smoothly adjusted until ingame fps meets this value, default = 40.0fShadowDrawDistMin - min value of shadow draw distance, it will never be set lower than this value in the game, default = 2000.0fShadowDrawDistMax - max value of shadow draw distance, it will never go above this value in the game, default = 15000.0That's all there is, after launching the game you should see that shadows will automatically adjust in cpu/gpu intensive areas such as downtown Boston/Lexington.
Leave a comment if it works for you (leaving your specs could also be super helpful for some people!).All credit for this mod goes to AlexanderBlade. I'm a bit confused here.2). Extract all 3 files inside the 'bin' folder to your main Fallout 4 directory (where Fallout4.exe is located, NOT the Data folder).3). Download the ShadowBoost.zip file from the mod page and extract the file inside the bin folder (ShadowBoost.ini) to your main Fallout 4 directory (same place as before). Are these steps not just a repeat of each other?
What's the point in doing Step 3 if step 2 was done? The Shadowboost.zip file from the Nexus only contains Shadowboost.ini within a bin folder and some readme files. The zip from the other site also contains an.asi and.dll file.By doing step 3 aren;t you just overwriting the previous.ini with the new.ini which are exactly the same?. I don't understand why the mod author puts this in the instructions either, but I just figured I may as well do it the way he said:PAlso, to be totally honest I feel like this mod needs a lot of work still. I'm contemplating disabling it purely because the shadow distance changes are just too noticeable, if he can make it faster then I would definitely use this 24/7. As it stands, there are areas where I will still drop to like 35fps with this mod, and 45fps without it!

Still worth trying it though, as it's easy enough to install/remove:).
About compressed archive.ZIP /.RAR mod filesThese compressed archives contain optimized multiple files, pressed into one file. It simplifies receiving and to sending mod files while saving your disk space. Archiving can help with checksums, encryption, file spanning, self-installation, and self-extraction actions. Windows and OsX operating systems use ZIP format, therefore it is the most common type. The second most popular sort of archiving format is RAR. Finally, Linux accepts TAR & GZ format while Unix runs only TAR archiving.
